Frequently asked questions

I have tried to answer some of the most frequent questions that I get asked here. If you don't find what you are looking for though then please don't be afraid to ask...

What are your prices?

We don't have a one size fits all approach, our florals are designed to suit each couple's requirements, venue and budget.

It is always much nicer to meet you, and talk through your plans and ideas (and budget) so we can give you an accurate estimate, but we do understand you may like a little more information first.

If you already have a budget in mind please let us know! We really don't want to be quoting you for things that are way beyond what you have in mind and this helps us to tailor everything to fit you, we can then advise and help you to get the most from what you have.

So here is a rough guide to what you might expect.

A Budget of £1,00-1,500

This is perfect for a simple or perhaps more intimate wedding that might typically include a bridal bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, flower girls florals, buttonholes, delicate centrepieces for the guest tables, a cascading arrangement of flowers for the signing table/top table and light florals around the ceremony area, aisle or arch.

A Budget of £1,500 - £2,500

A perfect budget for floral designs that make more of a statement. It could typically include a bridal bouquet, bridesmaid's bouquets, flower girl florals, buttonholes and corsages together with cascading top table flowers, a little more elaborate centrepieces and either fresh flowers for the aisle and a half arch of flowers or at the higher end perhaps urns or church flowers, an aisle runner or hanging florals.

A budget of around £3,000-£6000

This budget gives you the freedom to have more elaborate florals including all the personal florals such as bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquets, flower girls, flower crowns, buttonholes, corsages. Opulent and abundant centrepieces and cascading top table flowers that could be a long garland or cover more of the table. It could include a number of florals designed specifially for your venue and location such as ceremony florals, an aisle runner, floral archway, and hanging installations.

As a guide our hand tied bridal bouquets are from £120.00, cascade bouquets from £150

Bridesmaid bouquets around £70

Buttonholes £9

Corsage £13.50

We do have a minimum spend of £1,000 for weddings between May and October (unless they are one of our packages)

We have a minimum spend of £700 for weddings between November and April.

We have a minimum delivery and set up fee of £50 unless we are just dropping bouquets and buttonholes.

We have a minimum collection/dismantle fee of £50 after the wedding. 'Collection' refers only to items such as vases that belong to The Flowersmiths, the fresh items are all yours to keep. 'Dismantle' refers to items that will need to be dismatled and cleared from the venue for example hanging chandeliers or arches. If items are small and can be returned to us directly then this fee will not apply.

We are not VAT registered so there is no VAT to pay.

We can give you a more detailed breakdown of prices if you have an idea what what you like - just ask!

Do you offer packages?

Yes. We have designed some lovely celebration package choices for those of you who want an easier option, please see 'information' above.

Do you charge for a consultation?

We offer 2 completely free of charge consultations that can be either face to face or online. They are usually around 1 to 1/1/2 hours long. Not everyone needs 2 appointments but the second is there if you want it.

Our consultations are friendly and fun with advice, pictures, information and often a cup of tea....but with no obligation!! They are for you to enjoy and a time when you can ask any questions you have. I love to hear your ideas but am happy to help too with inspiration and suggestions.

The first appointment will be enough to get to know each other a little and allows me to put an initial quote and mood board together for you, and for you to come away with ideas to move forward with.

The second appointment is offered as a follow up anywhere from 3-6 months before the wedding. This is where changes are discussed and final designs and details agreed. We find that not every couple wants or needs this, but it's there if needed.

All other changes and ammendments can be made along the way via emails or phone calls and we find this works really well and is all that's needed for the vast majority of our couples.

For additional face to face/online appointments we reserve the right to make a charge of £30.

Do you work alone?

I will oversee your wedding flowers from your first consultation to the end of your big day. I like to be really hands on and I do make as much as I can. Alas, I can't always make everything, so I also have a team of creative, and talented people that work with me, all of whom are equally committed to making your wedding flowers perfect for your special day.

What information will you need from me?

We will definitely need the date, time and place for your wedding. We would really prefer it if you knew what colours you are going with and a little bit of detail on how many bridesmaids etc. as this makes for a more useful and productive appointment. Any colour swatches or pictures of dresses would be lovely too but not essential at the beginning. Other information can be gathered along the way and you really don't need to know anything about flowers so don't worry!  We have plenty of ideas and advice to get you started.

Do you have more than one wedding on the same day?

We can take more than one booking for the same day but it is strictly limited to what is manageble logistically and we will only do so if we are not compromising our high standards of personal and professional service.

How soon should we be booking a florist?

As a busy and popular florist we do get booked up quite a long time in advance. We recommend a year to 18 months is a good rule of thumb depending on your wedding date. Summer dates, half terms and bank holidays get booked up more quickly than the winter ones. We do discourage booking a consultation too early as it is very difficult to give you accurate prices too far ahead and often there are many changes that take place over time resulting in the need for more appointments.

Just give us a call or email us though and we can advise you on this.

Do you require a booking fee?

Yes we normally ask for a booking fee of 20% that will secure your date and confirm your wedding in our diary. Unfortunately we are unable to hold your date unless this is received.

How far do you travel?

We work all over Kent. We love to keep our business local of course, so that we can give maximum time to our wedding set ups and not spend it sitting in traffic, it's also better for the environment.

We do have a delivery, set up, take down and collection fee of £120.

However, there is a 50% discount for any couple that prefer to return vases to us within 2 days of the wedding. Please ask for details.

How do we get our flowers?

We work within your timing requirements to deliver and set up all flowers in plenty of time on the day of the wedding. Timings are all arranged and agreed with you before the day so that you know just what is happening and when. All reception and decorative flowers will be set up for you and checked by me and my team just a few hours before your wedding so they are looking perfect for your arrival!

Can you decorate churches?

Yes absolutely if the church allows this. Sometimes there are rules that the Church likes us to follow so it is worth asking them first to see just what their policy is regarding flowers.

Can you do a mock up of my flowers before the big day?

It is certainly possible but we don't encourage this for a number of reasons. We have to charge for this service as we will have to order in quite a few flowers. It is not always prcatical as the flowers we use are often seasonal so we are not guaranteed to get the exact flower varieties in that we will be using on the day and there are many constraints on our time during busy periods.

We understand this can be a really anxious time so we work especially hard to give you a really good feel for how your flowers will look on the day. We will produce moodboards and even drawings when required, as we feel it is essential that we are all working to the same vision and there are no surprises on the day. Our relationship with our clients is based on trust and we are delighted that most of our brides do feel totally reassured after their first consultation, but if you are not we would want you to tell us. For even more reassurance take look a look through our numerous testimonials on this site and reviews on facebook.

Do you work with faux or artificial flowers?

Yes we are now offering beautiful faux flowers for tables and venue decoration. Faux flowers are very on trend just now and we feel it gives our customers more flexibility to budgets, allows us to use incredibly beautiful flowers that may be out of season as well as being kind to those with allergies. There is no mess, no wilting, and you don't have to take them all home after the wedding! They can also be reused time and again which has to be more environmentally friendly.

We have added a new faux flower package too allowing you to decorate your wedding at a very reasonable cost but if that doesn't cover what you need then let us know and we can put together alternative plans.

This is an exciting new addition to our business this year which we will be developing throughout the year. Do feel able to ask us about the use of faux flowers for your wedding if you need to.
